Pressure sores

What you need to know:

There’s never an excuse for pressure sores - and when they happen to a bed-ridden relative in a hospital or nursing home, they’re inexcusable. These people need to be turned regularly, given skin rubs and strategically placed pillows or foam supports which will stop these injuries. Many hospitals and hospices these days also have volunteer Aromatherapy and massage therapists who can help relieve these problems.

If you’re looking after a bed-ridden person at home, there are products from several companies which can help with specially designed beds, mattresses, mattress overlays and cushions made for people who have posture or pressure sore problems. Ask your practice nurse or pharmacist for details.

If you have an elderly relative due to go into hospital, it’s important that they take supplements that will make their circulation more efficient and cut their risks of infection. These include:

The most useful Supplements:

  • Gingko biloba
  • Padma
  • Garlic

  • Back
