Pityriasis Rosea

Pityriasis Rosea is a condition causing a widespread erythematous rash which is slightly scaly, mainly affecting the upper body. Each spot is about one to two centimetres in length and one centimetre wide, and they tend to follow the lines of skin creases, so that from behind it looks a little like a Christmas tree. The appearance of the rash is usually preceded by a larger patch, several centimetres in diameter, and so called a herald patch. The cause of this is unknown but it is thought possibly to be due to a viral infection. No treatment is required.
