Candidiasis (Systemic)

Systemic Candidiasis is the term given to a severe infection from the yeast Candida albicans. Medically this condition is not widely recognised, but where it is, drug-based antifungals such as nystatin are prescribed

Candida albicans is responsible for oral thrush and vaginal thrush that causes Pruritus vulvae. Candida infections commonly arise as a side effect of treatment with antibiotics for bacterial infections elsewhere: the antibiotics kill off the beneficial bacteria that normally exist in the bowel, vulva and vagina. Without these 'good' bacteria, candida spreads very quickly.
