Cellulitis

Cellulitis is infection and inflammation of the dermis and deeper structures of the skin, usually with bacteria from the streptococcus or staphylococcus family which penetrate the skin at the site of a small cut. If this occurs around the eye - called periorbital cellulitis - there is a danger that it might spread to affect the brain, or cause the formation of blood clots in the circulation of the brain, and it requires emergency treatment. Cellulitis anywhere in the body requires antibiotic treatment.
