Flat feet

Flat feet is the name given to the condition where the arches of the feet have collapsed, causing the sole of the foot to rest flat on the floor. It’s also called Pes Planus. In some cases the foot is also turned outwards. Many people who have flat feet suffer no discomfort, but others suffer pain on walking, particularly long distances. It may be a familial condition associated with lax ligaments elsewhere, and it's common in childhood. In some cases it's a result of overweight in a person whose occupation involves a lot of standing. It may be helped by exercises including standing on tiptoe, and if walking is painful than arch supports may ease the symptoms.
