Phlebitis

Phlebitis is inflammation of the wall of a vein - -most commonly the veins of the leg as a complication of varicose veins. An area becomes red and painful and inflamed. It may follow trauma. It will be helped by compression, anti-inflammatory agents and possibly antibiotics. In certain conditions - particularly Cancer of the pancreas - the phlebitis might affect several veins at once, a condition called thrombophlebitis migrans.
