Ischaemic Heart Disease
Ischaemic heart disease means there is not enough blood flow to the heart muscle to supply its demands. This is usually due to partial or complete blockage of the coronary arteries. If the reduction in blood supply is only relative, then the excess of demand over supply causes the pain of angina, and reducing the demand by resting will relieve the pain. If the blockage is complete, the heart muscle may die - a myocardial infarction, or heart attack.
