Epididymitis

Epididymitis is inflammation of the epididymis, usually caused by infection by an agent which has travelled down the vas deferens from the urinary tract. There is pain, discomfort and swelling above and behind the testicle. Since the testicles originally arose high on the back wall of the abdomen, and that's where nerve supply comes from, the pain may be felt up in the loin. The infection may need prolonged antibiotic treatment. Rarely it may be caused by tuberculosis, when the condition is chronic rather than acute.
