Fragile X Syndrome

Fragile X syndrome is a condition due to a defective gene carried on the X chromosome. It is transmitted in a recessive manner and therefore mainly affects males, causing mental retardation and facial asymmetry. There is an increased tendency to anti-social behaviour. This is a disease that is carried by mothers, who will transmit it to 50 per cent of their male offspring.
