Bread is useful in disorders of the Digestive System and Nervous System.
Good wholemeal bread is good for constipation, piles, stress, insomnia, and weight loss.
Decent wholemeal bread contains minerals, protein, fibre and B vitamins. Wholemeal bread is richer in nutrients especially vitamin E, potassium, iron, zinc, Folic acid and riboflavin. Contrary to popular belief, bread is not fattening, in fact it’s an ideal food for slimmers as it’s delicious, nutritious and very filling - it’s what you put on it that decides how fattening it is.
White bread is slightly richer in calcium as it’s added to the flour and a good organic white loaf can be truly delicious. It does contain less fibre but there’s nothing intrinsically wrong with eating good white bread as long as you also eat some wholemeal too.
Nutrients
Eating bread at bedtime is an aid to good sleep as the starch stimulates the brain’s release of tryptophan, a relaxing chemical. Add a few lettuce leaves to your sandwich and you’ll be off to the land of nod in no time.
