Retinal Detachment

The retina may become stripped away from the underlying choroid. This is usually preceded by flashing lights, often in a zigzag lightning type pattern, possibly with pain. There is the impression of a curtain or a shadow falling across the field of vision. It is more common in the short sighted, or diabetics, particularly following a blow to the eye. Early surgery to stick the retina back may restore the vision.
