Nystagmus

Nystagmus is the name given to repetitive eye movements which occur involuntarily. They are usually horizontal - where the eyes jerk quickly to one side and then slowly return to look straight ahead, then the process repeats itself. More rarely they are vertical - the eyes jerk up and down - or circular. Nystagmus is usually a result of disturbances in the function of the balance organs in the ear, or the connections in the brain. It may be present from birth, and be associated with poor vision.
