Corneal Ulcers

Corneal ulcers are defects deeper than scratches. There are a number of causes; severe drying of the cornea, as may occur when the eyelids cannot close due to conditions such as thyroid eye disease or Bell's palsy, infections such as herpes simplex, or trauma. Untreated they may result in corneal scarring and visual loss. The only treatment for corneal scarring is corneal transplantation.
