Corneal Abrasions

Corneal abrasions are scratches on the surface of the cornea due to foreign bodies or ill-fitting contact lenses. The cornea is exquisitely sensitive to touch or pain: our sight is so vital that the moment there is contact with the cornea there is a reflex blink, and any injury is very painful and causes repeated blinking. Vision is impaired. The cause must be removed and antibiotic eye drops used to prevent infection while the cornea heals.
