Pulled Elbow

Pulled elbow is a condition of childhood which occurs when there is excess traction on the elbow when it is straight. The end of the radial bone gets pulled out of its socket, often when a child has lifted by the answer. The hand is held palm downwards and the child may refuse to use it. Turning the hand palm upward while pressing over the elbow may reduce the dislocation. Parents should be encouraged not to lift the child by the hands or forearms.
