Vertigo

What you need to know:

Sudden attacks of vertigo may be caused by arthritis in the neck, which in certain positions obstructs the flow of blood to the brain. This if often best treated by gentle osteopathic or chiropractic manipulation and deep massage of the muscles of the neck and shoulders.

Vertigo may also occur as a transient problem in a condition called postural hypotension. This happens when a rapid change from lying to sitting or sitting to standing causes blood to drain from the brain and drop into the abdomen and legs. This can cause instant vertigo for a few seconds until the heart pumps the blood back up to the brain.

Prevent the problem by avoiding rapid changes of position.
