Motion Sickness

What you need to know:

Motion sickness - or travel sickness as most people call it is quite common in adults when travelling by boat or plane, though car sickness is much more prevalent in children. Commonsense dictates that known sufferers shouldn’t tuck into a hearty greasy spoon breakfast before setting out on a journey.

The most useful Herbs:

The most effective natural remedy is Ginger. Drink a cup of Ginger tea before setting out. Make it by grating half an inch of peeled Ginger root into a mug, fill it with boiling water, cover, leave to stand for 10 minutes, strain, add a teaspoon of honey and sip slowly. For long journeys, take a flask with you.

Ginger biscuits, crystallised Ginger or Ginger capsules are all effective too.

This remarkable herb is just as good for early morning sickness during pregnancy and sickness after anaesthetics.

Other useful advice:

Acupuncture also works and pressure may be applied to points on the inside of the wrist using elastic wrist bands with small metal studs in the appropriate places or self adhesive plasters which act in the same way. These are easily available at health stores and pharmacies.
