Proctalgia Fugax

Proctalgia Fugax means fleeting pain in the anus or rectum. The pain may be severe, last for minutes or hours, and may occur in attacks that come every day, or not for weeks. There is no underlying structural abnormality, and it is thought to be due to muscle spasm. It may be helped by anti-spasmodics, bowel movements or low doses of anti-depressants or anti-epileptic agents. Some males find ejaculation beneficial.
