Perforation

Perforation means the bursting of part of the intestine and the release of its contents into the abdominal cavity, causing generalised peritonitis. While this may involve a peptic ulcer affecting the stomach or duodenum, it can arise from perforation of the appendix in appendicitis, an abscess of the wall of the large bowel complicating diverticulitis, or Crohn’s disease, or ulcerative colitis; or a Cancer of the colon.
