Intussusception

Intussusception is the condition where the bowel starts to turn itself inside out (like a sock), usually when the large intestine starts to try and pass a portion of the small intestine through the caecum. It causes pain, obstruction and the passage of blood in an infant between the age of 6 and 12 months. Since pushing one part of the bowel into another threatens the blood supply, medical attention is required.
