Breast Asymmetry

Breast asymmetry as the breasts develop is common, and causes concern to the teenager - though it usually corrects itself with time. The breasts start developing between the age of 9 and 10 with the formation of a breast bud (which may be tender, and not uncommonly also occurs in boys). By the age of 12 the breast contour has formed, by 14 the nipple and areola project above the surface and by 17 the breast has filled to adult proportions. If severe asymmetry persists, surgical assistance may be required, as it may be in persistent breast development in boys.
