Neuroses is a word we used to use to describe disorders such as anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder and post traumatic stress disorder, where patients suffered symptoms which are disabling, but where they are still in touch with reality. It is no longer used, since it is now felt that such disorders are entities in themselves.
