Narcolepsy

Narcolepsy is a disorder of excessive sleep.

Besides daytime sleepiness, there are periods of sudden onset of deep sleep, occurring abruptly and lasting short periods of time. If they occur while standing, resulting in falls, it is termed CATAPLEXY. The cause is unknown. There may be a genetic basis. Without proper treatment it is unwise for sufferers to drive.
