Encopresis

Encopresis is the deliberate passing of stool in inappropriate places, such as in the parents' bed or under the kitchen table. It is distinct from the faecal soiling which can occur as a result of chronic constipation, when the rectum is impacted by a bolus of faeces and liquid stool leaks around it. Encopresis requires psychological treatment, because it’s evidence of severe conflict between child and parent. Chronic constipation with faecal impaction requires dietary intervention and the use of laxatives, together with the treatment of any underlying cause such as an anal fissure.
