Encephalitis

Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain tissue rather than the lining itself. Because the neurones themselves are affected, there is disturbance of brain function with confusion and difficulties with speech and movement. The most common cause is by viral infection with a virus such as Herpes Simplex.
