What you need to know

Anxiety and stress are often the cause of many other illnesses, so it is very important to keep it under control.

The most useful Supplements:

A good hi-potency multi-nutrient (a strong multivitamin) formula taken daily is useful to assist in correcting dietary deficiencies caused by a poor or restricted diet. 

  • B-vitamin complex

25mg to 100mg of the major B group Vitamins per day

  • Calcium

500mg to 1,000mg per day

  • Inositol

500mg to 1,000mg per day

  • Magnesium

250mg to 500mg per day

  • Niacinamide

500mg 1 to 2 times per day

  • Vitamin B6

100mg to 200mg per day

  • Zinc with copper

15mg to 30mg and 1mg to 2mg per day

The most useful Herbs:

Calming herbs may help. They can be taken as teas or tablets. Generally tablets can be taken at 500mg 3 times per day, alternatively a combination of these herbs can be taken:

  • Chamomile

  • Hops

500mg 3 times per day

  • Passiflora

500mg 3 times per day

  • St Johns wort

500mg 3 times per day

  • Valerian

500mg 3 times per day

Other herbs that could help:

Basil, Honeysuckle,  Lemon Balm, Rosemary, Vervain, Wild lettuce, Wild oat

Homoeopathy

The following remedies have been beneficial for many people. A homoeopath may offer others depending on your individual symptoms.

  • Argentum nitricum
  • Ignatia
  • Kali phosphoricum
  • Aromatherapy

    The following oils can be used for massage or added to the bath:

    • Basil
    • Hops
    • Passiflora
    • Chamomile
    • Lavender
    • Rosemary
    • Honeysuckle
    • Lemon Balm
    • Valerian

    Dietary changes that may be beneficial:

    Check for food sensitivities as they may be the cause. Ask in-store for advice on the testing techniques available.

    All sources of caffeine should be avoided as this makes Anxiety worse.

    Food sources to avoid include:

  • Chocolate
  • Tea

  • Coffee
  • Guarana
  • Caffeinated soft drinks
  • Thermogenic supplements
  • Eat more:

  • Oats
  • Bananas
  • Lettuce
  • Oily fish.

  • Yoga
  • If you are already using SSRI drug medication eg fluoxetine (a type of antidepressant) for your Anxiety and you suffer from loss of libido as part of its side effects, it may be worth trying the herb Ginkgo biloba as it has been shown to reduce this.

    Other anti-depressants can cause deficiencies of certain vitamins and minerals, yet another reason for taking a good multivitamin and mineral on a regular basis.
