Phobias

A Phobia is a fear of a situation or a specific object, such as a spider, often associated with panic attacks:

AGORAPHOBIA

Is a sensation of anxiety produced by fear of being in a place or a social situation where it appears impossible to escape - for example a public place;

CLAUSTROPHOBIA

Is a fear of confined spaces, such as tunnels or lifts or small rooms, or MRI or CT scanners;

SOCIAL PHOBIA

Is an irrational fear of embarrassing oneself in public through uncontrollable defecation or vomiting.

All phobias may be associated with anxiety and panic disorder. There is evidence of some response to anti-depressant medication, suggesting this is a disorder of a chemical messenger. Behaviour therapy may be effective.
